BeFriend
What is BeFriend?
BeFriend is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund Scotland and Berwickshire Housing Association,
to help people living in Berwickshire and Kelso who are over the age of 65, to maintain social connections and engage with their local communities.
What do we offer?
- In-person befriending
- Telephone befriending
- Community befriending
1:1 Befriending is where an individual is matched with a volunteer who may visit you at home or telephone befriend on a regular basis. Having a volunteer befriender may enable you to get involved in hobbies, accompany you to go for a walk, a coffee outing or along to other social events.
Community Befriending is an opportunity to be involved in a number of regular activities such as including community lunches, shopping trips, dances and gentle movement classes.
Our volunteer befrienders are vetted, trained and have ongoing support from staff.
Volunteer With Us
Benefits of Volunteering
- Getting to know your community
- Boosting confidence and wellbeing as you interact with our befriendees
- A sense of fulfillment as you give back to your community
1:1 Befriending
usually are visits to the befriendee’s home or a chat over the phone. Befriender and befriendee may also visit a garden centre, shop or café, if both feel comfortable to do so.
Community Befriending involves supporting befriendees at community events such as tea dances and community lunches.
Volunteer Drivers help befriendees get to community events using their own cars or larger vehicles hired by BeFriend. They’re welcome to stay and take part too!
